After learning about repentance, Daniel asked, “What should I do next?”
His friend opened the Bible and read:
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Romans 10:9 (NIV)
Daniel noticed the word saved.
“What does it mean to be saved?” he asked.
His friend replied, “To be saved means that Jesus rescues us from our sins and gives us eternal life. We cannot save ourselves by trying to be good. Jesus died on the cross and rose again so we can be forgiven and have a relationship with God.”
He continued, “Imagine you are drowning in the sea. No matter how hard you try, you cannot save yourself. A lifeguard jumps into the water, rescues you, and brings you safely to shore. In the same way, Jesus is our Savior.”
After listening carefully, Daniel read the verse again:
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
He asked, “Then why does the verse also say Jesus is Lord?”
“‘Lord’ means Master,” his friend explained. “Imagine you are driving a car but realize you are lost. Jesus doesn’t just rescue you; He also knows the right destination. You choose to let Him take the driver’s seat and trust Him to lead the way.”
Daniel smiled. “Now I understand. Believing in Jesus means trusting Him as my Savior and choosing Him as the Lord of my life.”
His friend replied, “Exactly. Jesus is your Savior who rescues you and your Lord who leads you.”
