Jesus told his followers to get into a boat and go across the lake. He said he would come later. After that, Jesus sent the people home. Then he went up the hill alone to pray.

It was night. The boat was far from the shore. The wind was strong, and the waves were big. The followers were having a hard time rowing the boat.

Early in the morning, Jesus came toward them. He was walking on the water. When the followers saw him, they were very afraid. They shouted, “It is a ghost!”

Jesus spoke to them and said, “Don’t be afraid. It is me.”

Peter said, “Lord, if it is really you, tell me to come to you on the water.”

Jesus said, “Come.”

Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when Peter saw the strong wind and waves, he became afraid. He began to sink and cried, “Lord, save me!”

Jesus quickly reached out his hand and caught Peter. He said, “You have little faith. Why did you doubt?”

Then Jesus and Peter got into the boat. The wind stopped. The followers worshiped Jesus and said, “You are truly the Son of God.”
