A long time ago, in the 18th century, some places in Europe did not allow people to show their Christian faith in public. But one kind candy maker wanted to share the love of Jesus and the true meaning of Christmas. So, he made a special candy shaped like the letter “J.” It became known as the candy cane.

The candy cane looks like a shepherd’s staff. It reminds us that Jesus is like a shepherd who loves and cares for his people. When you turn it upside down, it looks like a “J” for Jesus.

The candy cane is hard to remind us that Jesus is strong and dependable. The red stripes stand for his love and sacrifice, and the white stripes show his purity and goodness. Green sometimes means new life and growth for those who believe in him.

When the candy cane breaks, it reminds us that Jesus died for us. It is also made to be shared, showing love and kindness to others—just as Jesus shared his love with the world.

“…You shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
“For God so loved the world that he gave Jesus, so that whoever believes in Jesus will have eternal life.”
