God sent an angel to a town called Nazareth in Galilee. The angel came to a young woman named Mary. She was not yet married but was promised to marry a man named Joseph, who came from the family of a great king.
The angel said, “Hello, Mary! God loves you and is with you.”
Mary was surprised and wondered what the angel meant. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Mary. God is blessing you. You will have a baby boy and name him Jesus. He will be great and called the Son of God. He will be a king forever, and his kingdom will never end.”
Mary asked, “How can this happen? I’m not married.”
The angel said, “God’s Spirit will make it happen. The baby will be holy and called the Son of God.”
Mary said, “I am God’s servant. May it happen just as you said.” Then the angel left.
