A large crowd of people followed the teacher, Jesus, because of the things he had done. They had seen him make sick people well.
Jesus, went up a hill and sat down with his disciples. He looked up and saw a large crowd coming towards him. He asked Philip, “Where can we buy enough bread to feed all these people?” Jesus already knew what he would do, but he asked to see what Philip would say.
Philip answered, “A man could work for eight months to earn 200 silver coins, but that would not be enough to buy bread. Everyone would only get a little piece.”
Then Andrew, another disciple, spoke. He was Simon Peter’s brother. He said, “Here is a boy who has five small loaves and two fish. But that is not enough for so many people.”
Jesus, said, “Tell the people to sit down.” There was plenty of grass, so the people sat down. There were about 5,000 men in the crowd.
Jesus, took the loaves of bread and thanked God for them. Then he broke the bread into pieces and gave it to the people. Everyone ate as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
When everyone had eaten enough, Jesus, said, “Do not waste anything. Pick up what is left.” So the disciples picked up the pieces and filled 12 baskets with bread that was not eaten.
The people saw this miracle and began to talk. They said, “Surely this man is very special.” They wanted to make him their king, but Jesus, knew this. So he went away to the hills by himself.
