The Angel Visits Mary
God sent an angel (His special messenger) to a town called Nazareth, in the region of Galilee. The angel came to a young woman named Mary. She was not yet married and had never been with a man. She was promised to marry a man named Joseph, who came from the family line of a great king from long ago.
The angel (messenger) said to Mary, “Greetings, Mary! God loves you very much. He is with you.”
Mary was confused and wondered what the angel’s message meant. So the angel said, “Do not be afraid, Mary. God is showing you kindness. You will become pregnant and give birth to a baby boy. You will name him Jesus. He will be very great. People will call him the Son of the Most High God. God will give him the place of honor once given to his ancestor, the great king. He will lead God’s people forever, and his kingdom will never end.”
Mary asked the angel, “How can this happen, since I have never been with a man?”
The angel replied, “God’s Spirit will come upon you, and His power will surround you. So your child will be holy. He will be called the Son of God.”
Mary said, “I serve the Lord. Let everything happen just as you have said.” Then the angel (messenger) left her.
